Two Colorado Springs police officers were assaulted while trying to make an arrest west of downtown Friday night, according to police.

Police said around 10:15 p.m., they were called to investigate a burglary on Colorado Avenue just west of Interstate 25. During their investigation, they contacted two men, one of whom was holding a syringe. When the officers told the man to drop the syringe, he refused. When an officer moved to control the man’s arm to drop the syringe, the man punched two of the officers in the face and threatened to kill them, according to police.

The suspect, Kristopher Pellegrini, was eventually taken into custody.

Police said both officers sustained minor injuries, but were able to remain on duty.
