Springs Police investigating whether carjacking, shooting are connected

COLORADO SPRINGS– The Colorado Springs Police Department is actively investigating whether are carjacking and a shooting are connected.

Around 10 a.m. officers with CSPD responded to Westmeadow Drive near HIghway 115 and South Academy Blvd. for a reported shooting.

When officers got there they found a man who had been shot. He was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Around the same time, there was a carjacking reported about a half-mile east of the shooting on Penny Point. In that incident, police believe a man stole a black Dodge Journey with Colorado plate 237-WKQ.

CSPD’s Violent Crime Section responded to the scene and assumed responsibility for the investigation.

The two incidents are being investigated independently to determine if there are related.
