COLORADO SPRINGS– Organizers with the Labor Day Lift Off announced a cancellation of the event on Sunday due to high winds.
The event was held on Saturday at 10 locations across the city. The organizers of the event released this statement to FOX21News:
Hot Apple Productions and the Colorado Springs Sports Corporation would like to thank the community for celebrating this Labor Day weekend with an incredibly successful and beautiful lift off of 40 balloons from nine different locations on Saturday morning and several majestic pop-up glows on Saturday evening. While we understand and share the disappointment from the cancelled lift off this morning, unfortunately the weather was uncooperative and created unsafe flying conditions with winds at 40+ miles per hour, 300 feet above the surface. The community can be proud of the fact this year’s Labor Day Lift Off was one of less than ten hot air balloon events in the world. Next year marks the 45th anniversary of the most colorful weekend in the Pikes Peak region and plans are already underway to return the Labor Day Lift Off to Memorial Park and bring back the excitement of vendors, live entertainment, mass ascensions each morning and marvelous glows in the evenings.
