Police have confirmed to FOX21 that a shooting has killed two people at Memorial Hospital Saturday afternoon.
Police said one man and one woman who were killed, were not employees and no one else was injured.
Authorities believe the shooting was contained to one room in the building.
Though this type of incident was shocking, Chief Nursing Officer Mark Mayes said his employees were prepared and trained to respond.
“We drill almost every scenario if it can happen in a hospital, or anywhere. They are highly trained to respond to all types of scenarios they are here to heal and provide health and save lives, for lack of a better term, they did that Today, as they do every day,” said Mayes.
There is no longer a threat to the community.
A small portion of the hospital is closed to the public, but the rest of the hospital is still open, according to officials.
