Cheyenne Mountain Boys Lacrosse wins school’s first state title


In the return of senior August Johnson from an injury, the Cheyenne Mountain boys lacrosse team won the school’s first-ever state title over Dawson.

A certain electricity was in the stadium at Mile High Friday night, and it wasn’t just the lightning threatening overhead. A lightening delay sparked the offense for the Indians, who trailed as much as 3-0 in the second quarter. Jack Paul put Cheyenne Mountain on the board as Johnson cut the Mustangs’ lead to one.  Dawson led 4-3 heading into halftime when Jack Egan scored the Indians’ third goal.

Less than a minute left in the third quarter, Ike Eastburn tied the game at five goals apiece. Then, late in the fourth quarter, Johnson gave Cheyenne Mountain its first lead of the game. The Indians added insurance to go up 8-6, and that would the stay the final.
