The Air Force Academy named Nathan Pine as its new athletic director.
Pine replaced Jim Knowlton who left for the same position at Cal Berkeley. Pine previously served as the Ddrector of athletics at the College of the Holy Cross since December 2013.
At Holy Cross, Pine oversaw a department of 27 Division I sports while more than doubling the Crusaders’ athletic fund. He also spent time in the athletic departments at the University of Maryland, Cal Berkeley, and the United States Military Academy.
Of the many things Pine hopes to do as athletic director, he said he wants to engage the Colorado Springs community to enhance the experience of the cadet-athletes.
“The first thing I would say is actively invite folks to participate and let them know that not only are they welcome, they’re wanted,” Pine said. “It’s a meaningful experience for our cadet-athletes when our venues are full when they have community members there that are supporting them. We can’t fill our football stadium with just the folks we have here on base. We have to engage the Colorado Springs community in order to have that atmosphere that we want to have.”
