Achilles Pikes Peak program celebrates a milestone

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Achilles of the Pikes Peak Region is celebrating its second anniversary.

This program pairs athletes with disabilities and volunteer guides to help them train.

People of all abilities can join in on the exercise and just have fun. You can walk, run, and even ride bikes.

On Monday night, members were having a big birthday bash to celebrate all the members and guides in the program.

“I think it is very empowering for so many of us who come to this at different levels of physical abilities, different goals in mind, get out there socialize and raise expectations for people with great mentors,” said Kevan Worley, a second-year member.

“You know everybody needs different things as you work with somebody they will learn what you need and know when to assist in whatever way you need without you having to tell them,” said Kevin Covacs, who joined four months ago.

Achilles welcomes everyone.

The group meets on Mondays at 5:45 p.m. at the Colorado Running Company, located at 5262 North Nevada Avenue in Colorado Springs.
