PIKES PEAK REGION — Driving to the summit of America’s Mountain will require more planning with a new online reservation system.
Starting May 1, a new timed entry reservation system is launching to free up parking at the summit and decrease the amount of traffic through Pikes Peak. Reserved time slots will be required starting May 27 through September 30.
You only need a reservation to drive and park at the new Pikes Peak Summit House. Park leaders say parking has been a problem since opening in June 2021 with visitors spending more time there on average.
The new timed-entry reservations will spread out when people are on the mountain and give visitors more space during their visit. There is a two hour window from your reservation time.
You can drive as far up as Devil’s Playground on Pikes Peak without a reservation. From there, a free shuttle will take visitors to the summit.
Although driving to the parking lot at the top of Pikes Peak requires a reservation, entrance to the Summit Visitor Center does not. Reservations will also not be needed for hiking and fishing in Pike National Forest.
“Reserving a time to drive to the top is designed to make your Pikes Peak experience more enjoyable and hassle-free, ensuring there will be space for you to park” the city wrote.
