HOLYOKE, Mass. — “Please look for the silver linings – as I was so fortunate to witness this evening,” said a woman who posted a photo of a random act of kindness that has since gone viral.
Paula Picard posted the photo to her Facebook page, saying she was at the Holyoke Mall last week when an older man stopped at the top of an escalator, clearly feeling unsure of making the next step.
That’s when a young man reached out his arm and offered to help the older gentleman on.
“This young man offered the simplest kindness: an out-reached arm and a ‘Can I help you on, sir?’” Picard said.
The older gentleman explained to the younger man that he had been stuck on an escalator once and was scared, according to Picard.
“The young man gently offered an assurance, they looked at each other eye to eye for just a moment, and the older man accepted his arm,” Picard said. “Everyone else remained patient.”
Picard went on to thank the young man for his kindness.
“Whoever this young man is, your family raised you right!” she said.
The photo, which was uploaded last Thursday, has since garnered over 255,000 likes and over 179,000 shares.
