UPDATE: The City of Manitou Springs has provided additional details on the fire that broke out along Highway 24 on Monday.
The Manitou Springs Fire Department (MSFD) was dispatched to the fire near the Cave of the Winds entrance at approximately 6:31 p.m. The MSFD, US Forest Service, Crystal Park Fire Protection District, and Colorado Springs Fire Department all responded. They remain on scene to mop up hotspots as winds are expected around 12mph overnight.
Currently, the cause for this fire is undetermined.
UPDATE: The Manitou Springs Fire Department has the fire under control and is currently mopping up hot spots.
The City of Manitou Springs will be providing a more in-depth briefing at 9 p.m., this article will be updated with the most up-to-date information.
MANITOU SPRINGS — Highway 24 westbound is closed at Manitou Springs due to fire activity in the area.
The Colorado Department of Transportation posted about the fire on their Twitter, initially reporting only the right westbound lane was closed but following up that all westbound lanes were closed due to fire activity.
