Victim in fatal hit-and-run identified as Virginia man

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — A pedestrian was killed in a hit-and-run crash in Colorado Springs Sunday night, according to police.

It happened around 8 p.m. on North Academy Boulevard near Marion Drive. Police said the pedestrian was trying to cross the southbound lanes of Academy and was hit and killed by a dark-colored SUV. The SUV left the scene.

The victim has been identified as Jeffrey Jacobs, 52, of Virginia.

Police have identified the suspect vehicle as a grey 2008 Ford Escape with Colorado license plate number 413 XPW.

UPDATE: Police said Tuesday morning that the suspect vehicle has been found.

This is the 31st traffic-related fatality in Colorado Springs this year. At this time last year, there were 29.
