Two injured in Kiowa County fire truck crash

SHERIDAN LAKE, Colo. — Two people were injured when a Kiowa County Fire truck rolled over Sunday afternoon, according to the Colorado State Patrol.

Troopers said the truck, a converted 1980 Chevrolet pickup, was headed to a crash involving two semi-trucks on Highway 96 at mile marker 176 just before 2 p.m. Sunday.

The fire truck crash happened on Highway 96 about three miles west of Sheridan Lake. Troopers said the driver lost control and the truck went off the road and rolled.

The driver, 26-year-old Matthew Biszak of Sheridan Lake, stayed in the truck as it rolled. He sustained minor injuries. The passenger, 24-year-old Elizabeth Moore of Sheridan Lake, was ejected. She sustained serious injuries but is expected to survive.

Troopers initially said neither the driver nor the passenger had a working seat belt, but a mechanical inspection later completed by CSP found the safety belts to be functioning properly.

Troopers are investigating the cause of the crash.
