Two arrested after toddler shot near Colorado Springs

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Deputies are investigating after a 3-year-old girl was shot in the foot at an El Paso County home early Friday morning.

It happened just before 4 a.m. at a home on Bramble Lane, which is in the neighborhood just northeast of Marksheffel Road and Bradley Road.

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office is now calling the incident an accidental shooting. Two family members have been arrested and are facing multiple charges.

Jose Gutierrez, 27, and Abraham Gutierrez, 26, were booked into jail after the shooting. Both are charged with felony child abuse, second degree assault, illegal discharge of a firearm and prohibited use of a weapon.

Deputies said the two were “extremely intoxicated” and handling a gun when it accidentally discharged.

The toddler was taken to the hospital for treatment. There’s no word on her condition.UPDATE: Deputies originally said the victim is 2 years old. This story has been updated with the correct information.
