WALSENBURG, Colo. — A Trinidad woman was killed in a crash on Interstate 25 about 11 miles south of Walsenburg Thursday.

The Colorado State Patrol said a 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer and a 1994 Geo Metro were both headed southbound when the driver of the Chevy tried to change lanes and hit the Geo Metro. The Chevy went off the road, rolled, and hit a fence, ejecting the driver. The Geo Metro went off the road and came to a controlled stop.

The driver of the Chevy, 19-year-old Danessa Nunez of Trinidad, was flown to a hospital, where she died. Troopers said she was not wearing her seatbelt.

The driver of the Geo Metro was not injured. The passenger was hospitalized with minor injuries.

Troopers said excessive speed contributed to the crash. They said alcohol and drug use were not factors.
