A wildfire burning on Forest Service land near Fairplay has burned about 1,500 acres and is 10 percent contained as of Friday afternoon.
The Weston Pass Fire started around 11:30 a.m. Thursday about nine miles southwest of Fairplay. Mandatory evacuations are in place for all homes between the fire and County Road 22. Voluntary evacuations are in place for the Black Mountain subdivisions. Surrounding areas are encouraged to remove livestock and pets and prepare to evacuate.
County Road 22, Forest Service Road 442, and Forest Service Road 158 are closed due to the fire.
Smoke from the fire may be visible in neighboring counties.
