COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — People gathered in Colorado Springs Sunday for Transgender Day of Remembrance–an event to honor everyone who has lost their lives in the transgender community, from violence to suicide.
It’s also a chance to break down barriers to gain acceptance.
“What it boils down to, I’m a person,” transgender program coordinator Dana Stevens said. “I want to be an individual contributor to our society. I want to participate in the growth of our community. Treat me as a person. That’s all I want.”
While this is a somber event, it’s a step in the healing process and a move forward to positivity.
