(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The suspect who died following an officer-involved shooting on Thursday morning, Aug. 17, has been identified as 37-year-old Benjamin Annaboli, a violent felon with multiple felony arrest warrants, according to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office.

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office reports the suspect had died from his injuries.

A fugitive wanted for multiple felony warrants was hospitalized after an officer-involved shooting Thursday morning on Aug. 17, according to the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD).

CSPD’s Tactical Enforcement Unit (TEU) was contacted regarding an operation in Colorado Springs held by the U.S. Marshall’s Service and Colorado State Parole. Law enforcement found a wanted violent felon with multiple arrest warrants, per CSPD.

The man was located in a parking lot located in the 1700 block of Aeroplaza Drive. TEU responded and assisted in attempting to take the suspect into custody while he was in a vehicle.

The suspect attempted to escape in the vehicle but was unsuccessful. A CSPD canine was deployed and contacted the fugitive when he attempted to run inside a business, per CSPD.

“During the contact, the fugitive produced a handgun and at least one CSPD officer fired at least one round,” said CSPD.

Officers took the fugitive into custody and rendered aid until medical arrived and he was transported to a hospital. The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office is taking the lead on the officer-involved shooting investigation.

CSPD reported an officer-involved shooting on Thursday, Aug. 17, in the 1700 block of Aeroplaza Drive near East Fountain Boulevard and South Powers Boulevard.

CSPD says there is no ongoing threat to the public.
