The fourth annual War Dog Memorial Run will recognize military working dogs at the Mountain Post and across the nation.
Fort Carson has 14 dogs, and some have even earned the combat badge.
“A lot of folks probably don’t realize how many dogs serve our country, and they put their life on the line just like soldiers in action,” Michael O’Donnell with Fort Carson said. “So whether they’re here at the installation level or they’re actually in theatre, deployed with their handlers, everything from explosive device detection to force protection, they’re engaged in our nation’s battles, side by side with our soldiers.”
The event is Saturday at 9 a.m. at Iron Horse Park. Same-day registration is $20, cash only. Registration is free for dogs and for kids ages 3 and under. Leashed dogs are welcome, but are not required.
