Tuesday, the 21st Security Forces squadron at Peterson Air Force Base held a retirement ceremony and memorial for military working dogs.
Those who work with the dogs say they’re crucial to security forces and to their mission.
After years of service, one dog retired Tuesday and was adopted by his handler.
“Obviously these dogs mean a lot to us,” handler Sgt. Vaughn Rivard said. “We spend almost every day with them. They become a part of our lives. To see one of them retire, and get to take the time to just sit on a couch and relax, is a big deal.”
Military dogs who died in the line of duty were also honored at the ceremony.
