Local body shop offers place for veterans to bond over cars and life

Military Matters

What started out as a local body shop quickly turned into a place for veterans to bond over cars and all things fixer-upper.

“There’s nothing cooler than working on hot rods,” said SSG Justin Patterson, member of the Engine Therapy program.

“I like to think we’re saving lives,” Patterson added. “We’re healing each other while we’re fixing these cars.”

Even though they’re surrounded by cars, they admit, it’s not about the work.

“It’s really not about the therapy,” Patterson said, “It’s about the camaraderie and brotherhood.”

Whether you have extensive car repair experience or have never laid your hands on one, there’s a spot for you at Colorado Speed Company in engine therapy.

“I knew nothing,” Josh Acevedo said. “Zero experience and they were able to help me from here.”

“It’s a clean, sober, safe and fun environment,” Patterson said.

“Get outside of your house, meet some great guys and take it from there,” he added.
