Inactivation ceremony marks change in leadership at Cheyenne Mountain AFS

Military Matters

The leadership is changing at the Cheyenne Mountain Air Force Station.

The 721st Mission Support Group held its inactivation ceremony Friday, as the 21st Mission Support Group out of Peterson Air Force Base will be taking over command of the operations for the unit.

The units are responsible for communications, security engineering, and other support. They say all of that will continue, despite the change.

“By merging the two organizations, we are merging those squadrons and having more efficiencies,” Air Force Col. Kirsten Aguilar said. “And so what we will do is, no change to the support that’s provided to the Cheyenne Mountain mission partners. No support change to the community.”

Base support, missile warning, and space situational awareness missions will continue at both Peterson and Cheyenne Mountain.
