Fort Carson will add about 200 soldiers when its 2nd Infantry Brigade Combat Team converts to a Stryker Brigade Combat Team, post officials announced Thursday.

The conversion is expected to begin in the spring of 2020. The new brigade will be organized the same as the 1st Striker Brigade Combat Team, which is already stationed at Fort Carson. The 4th Infantry Division also has a tank brigade and a helicopter brigade stationed at the Mountain Post.

Strykers can be configured for transporting soldiers, carrying anti-tank missiles and other weapons, evacuating wounded soldiers, conducting reconnaissance and other roles.

The 2nd Infantry Brigade Combat Team is currently deployed to Afghanistan and Kosovo.
