Dozens of helicopters flown back to Fort Carson after deployment

Military Matters

There’s a lot of buzzing going on in the southern part of Colorado Springs.

About 15 helicopters from the 3rd Assault Helicopter Battalion, 4th Aviation Regiment, 4th Combat Aviation Brigade “Ivy Eagles” arrived back at Fort Carson’s Butts Army Airfield Tuesday afternoon.

About 80 more helicopters will return throughout the week. They’re returning after the brigade deployed to Europe in June to support the Atlantic Resolve mission, which builds readiness.

“Aircraft will be arriving in groups of five to up to seven,” Maj. Ryan Sommer said. “They’ll be arriving during daylight hours. We’ll be doing our best to fly as high as we can in order to reduce the noise pollution on the rest of the community.”

The helicopters were shipped from overseas to Texas, then flown back home.
