The El Paso County Progressive Veterans Initiative held an event Saturday to help veterans, active-duty military, and their families get the help they need.
The group said it’s not about politics, but about serving those who served.
“Many people think everybody in the military is a Republican, and that just simply isn’t true,” Kent Jarnig with El Paso County Progressive Veterans said. “Statistically, Democrats represent about 20 percent. And we’re trying to find a way to bring them together where they’re comfortable with who they are and what they offer. What we’re trying to do is explain to everyone that Democrats have died in war. We have fought in war. I was a combat medic in Vietnam. We’re not any different, and we want to reach out and help everyone.”
The group helps connect people to healthcare, mental health, and other resources.
