Colorado State Patrol is investigating a fatal car crash that happened Monday on Peyton Highway, about half a mile south of Drennan Road.
Troopers say 40-year-old Thomas Boatman of Yoder was driving northbound on Peyton Highway when his 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee went off the right side of the road. Authorities say Boatman over-steered to the left, causing the Jeep to rotate, continue north, and come back on the road. Officials say Boatman then over-steered to the right, causing the Jeep to rotate, roll, and collide with a barbed-wire fence before coming to rest.
According to CSP, Boatman, who was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, was ejected from the Jeep. He sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead by the El Paso County Coroner’s Office.
Right now troopers say alcohol and drug use are not considered contributing factors at this time.
