A woman has died of injuries she sustained in a crash in southern Colorado Springs last week, according to police.

The crash happened around 11 a.m. May 30 at the intersection of South Circle Drive and Verde Drive. Police said an Acura was headed southbound and turned left in front of a Cadillac that was headed northbound. The Cadillac hit the Acura on the Acura’s passenger side, causing significant damage to both cars.

The front seat passenger in the Cadillac, 105-year-old Leone Darnold of Colorado Springs, sustained serious injuries. She was taken to the hospital, where she died on Wednesday.

Police said the driver of the Cadillac and two passengers in the Acura sustained minor injuries.

Police said speed, alcohol, and drugs do not appear to be factors in the crash. Everyone involved was wearing a seatbelt, according to police.

Darnold’s death is the 17th traffic-related fatality in Colorado Springs this year. At this time last year, there were 20.

Police said their investigation into the crash is ongoing.
