Wednesday Bingo helps raise money for local veterans

A group of veterans and veteran spouses meets every Wednesday to play bingo at Bingo World to help raise money for the American heroes in the Colorado Springs community.

“The most of us here were Vietnam veterans, either wounded here or in Korea,” said Larry Hathaway, a Purple Heart recipient and bingo manager.

The funds from the bingo game go toward scholarships and veterans in need in the community. The organization the Military Order of the Purple Heart Chapter 423 puts on the bingo event.

“It’s a group they classify as the elite, because not everyone can be members of our organization, but we can be members of their organization,” Hathaway said.

They recently allocated $500 to help Colorado Veterans Resource Coalition’s Crawford House, which was badly damaged in recent storms.

They hope more Purple Heart recipients join their organization.
