Warning period for Colorado Springs red light cameras ends Thursday

Police are reminding residents that the warning period is almost over for drivers who are caught running red lights at two Colorado Springs intersections.

Red light cameras went live April 9 on eastbound Platte Avenue at Chelton Road and on westbound Briargate Boulevard at Lexington Boulevard.

Preliminary numbers show that between April 9 and May 3, police reviewed 565 videos of potential violations at the two intersections. They sent 452 written warnings to drivers. Police said they are still in the process of reviewing violations that may have occurred during the warning period.

Starting May 9, drivers who run red lights at those intersections will be issued a $75 citation.
