The second annual Vittles for Vests was hosted by the Colorado Springs Police Foundation and Shield 616 Sunday.
Twelve different chefs from the community made their finest food so everyone had a chance to try it.
“To know that I’m a small part of a bigger picture of bringing them home at night to their families knowing that they have this equipment that could potentially save their lives,” Police Foundation executive director Nicole Magic Soto said. “They do so much. I think it’s a thankless job sometimes, and a lot of people wouldn’t want to do that job, but we have a fabulous department with wonderful leadership, and I couldn’t be more proud to be standing next to them.”
The money raised will go toward outfitting the 43 Colorado Springs police recruits graduating next month. Any money leftover will go to upgrading existing vests. Since the tactical vests go over their standard vests, the foundation is buying pouches so the officers can still wear their body-worn cameras over the tactical vests.
