Friends and loved ones celebrated the life a bicyclist who died Monday after being hit by car near downtown Colorado Springs a week ago.

A vigil was held Tuesday evening at the intersection of Weber and Dale Streets, where the crash happened.

The victim’s family asked that we do not disclose his name. We do know he was a member of Jack Quinn’s Running Club, which met at the vigil to say their final goodbyes.

“Last Tuesday after our run, he was traveling home, and at about 7:31 that evening, right at this intersection, he was hit from behind,” Jack Quinn’s Running Club President Mike Schafer said.

About 20 people came together, lighting candles and saying a few words about their friend.

“If we could come out in some short amount of time and get all of these people together in the lovely Colorado fall weather to remember him, then that’s just a small indication of how important he was to us,” Schafer said.

This is the fourth bicyclist killed in Colorado Springs this year and the 43rd traffic-related death in the city in 2018. That’s the most in the city since 1986.
