(SECURITY-WIDEFIELD, Colo.) — EPSO said the barricaded suspect incident in Security-Widefield has been resolved after a deputy-involved shooting.

EPSO tweeted about the resolution shortly before 7:30 p.m. on Monday and confirmed that the case is now a deputy-involved shooting investigation.

EPSO said there is no further threat to the community and the suspect is in custody. The suspect was taken to the hospital following the shooting, no word on their condition or the extent of their injuries. EPSO said there were no other injuries.

The shelter in place order has been lifted and neighbors can safely venture from their homes. The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) is the lead investigative agency, EPSO said.

Students at Venetucci Elementary School are being sent home on a “controlled release.” Parents can pick up their children, or they are being sent home on busses, according to a spokesperson with School District 3.

Venetucci Elementary School is on secure status due to the armed barricaded suspect in the area. The school said they will not be releasing students to parents until they receive the all-clear from EPSO.

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office (EPSO) said there is heavy law enforcement presence in a neighborhood in Security-Widefield due to a barricaded suspect.

EPSO posted about the incident just before 3 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 27 on their Twitter account. EPSO said the law enforcement activity was in the area of Easy Street and Kiva Road.

EPSO said the suspect is armed and is in the 60 block of Easy Street. A Peak Alert was sent to neighbors in the area warning them to secure their homes and stay away from doors and windows.
