Every 19 minutes, an older adult dies from a fall in the United States.
September was National Fall Prevention Awareness Month, and all across the U.S., therapy and balance centers brought awareness to fall prevention.
Bill Townley, a patient at FYZICAL Therapy and Balance Centers in Peyton, experienced a fall in 2002. While on a construction site, he fell 13 feet, injuring his spinal cord.
Now, he gives advice to others who may be in a similar situation.
“Need to be just patient, and not be so unable to ask for people for help, because there’s some things I just can’t do,” Townley said.
Bill is a paraplegic now, but he said he’s grateful for all the therapy, because he’s learning to walk with arm crutches.
