Pueblo City Council approved a resolution to dedicate nearly $1 million for Pueblo police officers’ new computers in their patrol cars.
They received an approval to lease 135 new laptops, which are used in their cars for writing reports, dispatching access to databases, and internet access.
This upgrade will also allow police officers’ computers to have an extra security step, which is required by the state.
“It is going to be a relief because our current laptops have been failing for quite some time now, we are currently looking at a 50 percent fail rate. Without those computers they are basically lost,” said Capt. Kenny Rider with the Pueblo Police Department.
Now that this has been approved, Capt. Rider estimates it will take about a month until all officers are equipped with the new equipment.
