Police: Driver in rollover crash may have died of medical condition

Police say the driver of a car that rolled over in western Colorado Springs Tuesday morning may have died of a medical condition. 

The crash happened around 7:10 a.m. on southbound Eighth Street near the intersection with Arcturus Drive. Police said the car went off the road and hit a curb, some trees, and a utility box. It came to rest on its roof in the roadway. The driver died on the scene.

Police said an autopsy will determine how the man died, but it appears he may have died of a medical condition.

UPDATE (August 24, 2018): An autopsy concluded that while a minor medical episode contributed to the crash, the driver, 47-year-old Anthony Thies of Colorado Springs, died of injuries sustained in the crash. 

As of August 24, there have been 33 traffic-related deaths in Colorado Springs this year. At this time last year, there were 24.
