Pikes Peak-area teachers win Extra Yard for Teachers grant

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Ten Pikes Peak-area teachers were recognized by the Air Force Academy Athletic Corporation for going above and beyond in and out of the classroom.

It's all part of the corporation's participation in the Extra Yard for Teachers promotion in conjunction with the Mountain West Conference and the College Football Playoff Foundation.

Extra Yard for Teachers is the primary platform of the College Football Playoff Foundation. It's an eight-day event each September supporting teachers, centered around the college football regular season.

Each teacher was given $1,000 to spend on school supplies.

"I hope I touch a lot of kids," Stratton Meadows Elementary teacher Traci Quesenberry said. "I know I can teach them and I know I can make every single kid a wonderful artist if they are willing to try."

Air Force Athletics will recognize all 10 teachers on the field during the September 29 football game against Nevada Reno.
