The City of Colorado Springs will start implementing overnight gate closures at Garden of the Gods Park on Friday, city officials said Tuesday.
The city announced last month that they’re installing gates at all of the entrances to the park. The gates will help them enforce an existing rule prohibiting vehicular traffic in the park after hours.
Garden of the Gods is open to the public daily from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. May through October, and from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. November through April. The park is closed overnight.
City officials said eight of the nine gates enclosing the park have already been installed. Security guards will start closing the Ridge Road gate on Friday.
Full after-hours closures will start once the final gate is installed at the park’s main entrance on Gateway Road. City officials expect the full closures to start in mid to late September.
City officials said the gates will only be used after hours, during permitted special events, and in emergency situations.
