The Colorado College class of 2019 celebrated their graduation Sunday, along with special Keynote Speaker Oprah Winfrey.
“I just want to thank CC for everything. It has been an amazing four years and I couldn’t have asked for a better college experience,” said Emily Sussman.
Winfrey gave the commencement speech, after a young woman that she sponsors, graduated in the 2019 class.
Winfrey contributed more than $200 million toward education for academically gifted girls in South Africa. Several of those students came over to the United States for college. One of those girls was Lee-Ann Palesa Mokoena.
Mokoena introduced Winfrey during the ceremony.
“Seeing Oprah was a lot of fun and it was a great experience,” said Lara Ash, another graduate.
Winfrey was at another Colorado College graduation two years ago, for another one of the young ladies she sponsored, who also graduated from the University.
During her speech Sunday she reminded the students it’s important to take that job out of college, to floss and to just be themselves. She gave every student as they walked across the stage a copy of her new book The Path Made Clear.
