Officials say target shooting caused fire in Calhan Sunday

CALHAN, Colo. — According to fire officials, target shooting caused a fire that prompted evacuations in Calhan Sunday.

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office said specifically an explosive target people were shooting at in an open field caused the fire near Soap Weed Road Sunday afternoon.

No one has been cited yet but the Regional Bomb Unit has taken over the investigation.

An abandoned barn was destroyed in the fire.
