The YMCA of the Pikes Peak Region’s newest location opened its doors to the public Saturday after a few years of anticipation.
“It should meet any need in the community from young to old,” YMCA COO Jeff Peterson said. “It should really help people be successful in improving their health and taking care of themselves.”
The new YMCA is located at 3035 New Center Point. That’s in the former iT’Z building at Carefree Circle and Tutt Boulevard, just south of the First & Main shopping center. The building is 46,000 square feet of active space.
“You see more and more families coming to the YMCA as a group looking to work out together as a unit,” said Corey Stewart, a member of the YMCA.
Peterson said their focus is still on serving everyone in the community. He said 100 percent of donations that come into the YMCA are contributed to kids or families who may be having a difficult time paying for their membership.
“We don’t turn anyone away,” Peterson said. “We are in a movement throughout this country, and we’re in 130 countries throughout the world.”
The YMCA at First & Main features the largest healthy living area and child watch center of any Y in the region. it also features the Y’s only cardio cinema. It’s the first new YMCA of the Pikes Peak Region location in 11 years.
