New military discount app created for service members by veterans

Those who have fought or are currently fighting for our country can now find thousands of military discounts right from the palm of their hand with Deal Patrol.

It’s a new smartphone app for service members made by veterans.

A launch party for the new tool was held Friday at Tap Traders.

The creators, Gavin Light and Darren Smith, are veterans themselves and are from Colorado Springs.

“When I was a cadet at the Air Force Academy, you only get a stipend of $100 a month your freshman year, at least back when I was a cadet, and yeah room and board is provided, but $100 doesn’t go far, so you quickly learn how to ask for military discounts,” Light said.

The two say they wanted to create a resource that helps our country’s heroes access military discounts in their area, and not just offers at big box stores, but mom and pop places too.

“It’s easy to get the chains,” Smith said. “Everybody knows about them. But when you really find the mom and pops, the Tap Traders of this world, that’s what the military wants to know about, and that’s where they want to go patronize so they can also go meet other veterans who are patronizing those as well and form that community.”

A portion of the ad revenue from Deal Patrol is also going to military charities, starting with The Home Front Cares based in Colorado Springs.

“We wanted to give back as well and so we will get some ad revenue,” Light said. “We’re not going to make the app experience bad by bombarding users with too many ads, but if they click on an ad we might get 25 cents and we’re going to be giving 10 percent right back to military charities.”

“Just search for ‘Military Deal Patrol’, download the app, start using it and review us and we hope you get a lot of value out of it,” Smith said.
