Amblicab, a nonprofit organization providing specialized transportation in Colorado Springs, has unveiled new mobile and online applications for scheduling and managing rides.

Riders now have the freedom to request rides via their smartphone or computer, receive confirmations, and view all the rides they have scheduled.

Amblicab provides rides to older adults, low-income individuals, and those with disabilities.

One of the first riders to test Amblicab’s new technology is 76-year-old JoAnn Bogart.

“I am so excited about this app,” Bogart said. “It’s extremely helpful to me.”

Amblicab Executive Director Gail Nehls said she just wants these people’s lives to be easier.

“I think it’s important to dispel the myth that older adults are afraid of technology,” Nehls said.

“Whether it’s going for your hair appointment, or the bridge club, or to your doctor’s appointment,” Nehls said Amblicab can take you wherever you need to go.

“I would suggest any senior out there who has the chance and the opportunity to definitely use this service,” Nehls said.

The app was funded by NextFifty Initiative in Denver. NextFifty is an independent nonprofit organization that was formed to fund new initiatives for the aging population in Colorado and around the country.

“NextFifty Initiative is a new grant making foundation located in Denver. The organization is geared towards changing the aging landscape of Colorado and the nation, and really focusing on organizations that have innovative projects,” Diana McFail, with NextFifty Initiative, said.

Riders and others interested in downloading the app or receiving more information should contact Amblicab at 719-633-4601.
