The closure date of the Martin Drake Power Plant will not be moving up, at least for now.
In a Colorado Springs Utilities board meeting on Monday, Dec. 18, members decided not to accelerate the decommissioning date.
It is scheduled to be decommissioned by 2035.
It was decided that there will be no replacement generation source added.
Once Drake is gone, transmissions upgrades are necessary, so the board approved accelerating transmission projects from other substations.
