The man who caused a two-car crash at the intersection of Chelton Road and Airport Road last month has died of his injuries, according to police.
Police said the crash happened October 27. A Ford Escort was headed southbound on Chelton Road when it ran a red light and was hit by a Chrysler Pacifica that was headed westbound.
The driver of the Ford, 32-year-old Mark Melvin of Colorado Springs, was taken to the hospital. He died of his injuries on Thursday, according to police.
Police said one of the three people in the Pacifica sustained a minor injury. No one else was injured.
Police said Melvin is suspected to have been under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash. No charges will be filed against the driver of the Pacifica.
Melvin’s death is the 47th traffic-related death in Colorado Springs this year. At this time last year, there were 32.
