(MANITOU SPRINGS, Colo.) — A man suffered numerous injuries and had to be taken to the hospital following an assault at the Barr Trail parking lot in Manitou Springs on Monday evening.

According to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office (EPSO), around 7:40 p.m. on Monday, EPSO received a report of an assault at the Barr Trail parking lot. Officers with the Manitou Springs Police Department (MSPD) responded, and when they arrived, they found an adult man suffering from “multiple injuries.”

The Manitou Springs Fire Department also responded, and EPSO said medical crews performed “life-saving efforts” before the victim was taken to the hospital.

EPSO said multiple witnesses told police they saw the suspect run from the scene, though EPSO does not believe there is any further threat to the community.

EPSO is reviewing camera footage of the incident and interviewing witnesses. The Sheriff’s Office asked anyone who may have witnessed the incident to contact their tip line, at (719) 520-7777.

A large law enforcement presence is responding to the area of Manitou Avenue near Barr Trail, according to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office (EPSO).

The City of Manitou said EPSO is the lead agency responding to an incident in Manitou Springs, though it is unclear what is under investigation at this time. EPSO is responding to Barr Trail and will provide more information to members of the media on the scene.
