A Kansas man was killed in a crash in Kiowa County this weekend, according to the Colorado State Patrol.
The crash happened on Highway 96 about three miles west of Towner. It involved a 2005 Nissan Pathfinder, which was headed eastbound, and a 2006 Ford F350, which was headed westbound pulling a gooseneck trailer loaded with a farm tractor. The Pathfinder hit the driver’s side mirror on the pickup, then hit the front corner of the trailer. It then went across the westbound lanes and off the road. The driver, 42-year-old Jeffrey Nix of Scott City, Kansas, was ejected. He was taken to the hospital, where he died. Troopers said he was wearing his seatbelt.
Troopers said the people in the F350 were also wearing their seatbelts, and were not injured.
Troopers said alcohol and drugs are not considered factors in the crash, which remains under investigation.
