FOX21 News and the American Red Cross are partnering once again to honor some Hometown Heroes–businesses and individuals who exemplify courage, kindness, and unselfish character. In this story, we’re highlighting the Mt. Carmel Veterans Service Center.
The Mt. Carmel Veterans Service Center makes it easier for the military and veteran communities to integrate into everyday life across the Pikes Peak region. Since March 2016, they have opened their doors to individuals and families seeking service and support.
Mt. Carmel provides a variety of programs and services, including behavioral health counseling, employment and transition support, and housing assistance. With such a huge military population in Colorado, this is something the creators of the service center feel very passionate about.
“Everybody knows that transitioning out of the military can be challenging at times,” COO Bob McLaughlin said. “It’s very stressful, and the idea that you’re going to be set up with employment to take care of your family is critical. We’re proud of our peer-to-peer counseling and our partners in the community that come together to welcome those service members and their families back to this community.”
Hometown Heroes will receive their awards during a dinner at The Broadmoor on March 15.
