Colorado is wrapping up the month of May officially drought-free!
This is a HUGE feat for the state. We have not been 100% “drought free” since the drought monitor began recording in 2000. In other words, this is a first!

This improvement is thanks in large part to the snowy winter and spring we saw – that includes a wet month of May!
Rain and snow gave us moisture totals over an inch higher than last year around the Springs and closer to 2 inches higher in Pueblo. Granted, last May was dry, but these totals are still over a half inch higher than average.

The latest drought monitor is 100% drought free, even free of abnormally dry conditions, for the state of Colorado. This compares to last year where 75% of the state was under some form of drought or abnormally dry, and 50% was suffering from severe to extreme drought. Great news to wrap up May!
