Girl scouts get hands-on firefighting experience

Some Colorado girl scouts got to experience a day in the life of a firefighter, Wednesday.

Nearly 20 teen girl scouts from all across the front range were allowed to participate.

The teens learned leadership skills from female firefighters with the Colorado Springs Fire Department.

The group spent the day going over real fire and emergency rescue skills. They tried on gear, participated in aerial climbing, hose work and auto extrication training.

“I can’t think of a more tangible way to be inspired than to meet and learn from female firefighters who are out serving their communities every day, doing these very difficult things. I can’t think of better role models for young girls to be around for the day and to show them what could be possible for them,” said Anna Danila, an outdoor program manager with the girl scouts.
