Fountain Police Department promotes first-ever woman lieutenants

The Fountain Police Department is leading the way when it comes to representing women in law enforcement.

Right now, about 28 percent of their force is women, which is more than double the national average. This week, the department promoted its first-ever women lieutenants.

On Tuesday, Fountain Police posted a picture to their Facebook page congratulating the women: Lt. Tara Mallett, Lt. Missy Reynolds, and Sgt. Shannon Daly.

Right now, Mallett is leading the team of school resource officers at Fountain-Fort Carson High School.

Mallett said she’s grateful for her 21-year career in law enforcement, and the opportunities it’s provided are amazing.

“I have great mentors,” Mallett said. “I’ve had people that helped me develop and grow into my leadership roles, and without that, I wouldn’t be where I’m at today.”

Those who work beside Mallett said she absolutely deserved the promotion.

“I’m very, very happy that I’m part of a department that sees that the right person is getting the job,” Cpl. Matt Sanchez said.

Mallett said she hopes her career in law enforcement inspires other women to join the force.
