A man was killed when he crashed his car while speeding away from another crash in southeastern Colorado Springs Monday morning, according to police.
Police said around 8:30 a.m., the driver got into a minor crash near the intersection of South Circle Drive and Interstate 25. He left the scene headed northbound on South Circle Drive. When he tried to exit onto Hancock Expressway, he missed the curve, went off the road, went across a grass median, hit a light pole, and went over the entrance ramp and into a drainage ditch.
The driver died on the scene. He has been identified as Gary Pierce, 71.
Police said a dog that was also in the car was taken to the humane society for treatment.
Police said it appears speed was a factor in the crash. They don’t yet know if drugs or alcohol were factors.
